Dr. Ponseti communicates with
2-week-old baby Garrison during a
casting procedure in Iowa City. March,
2006
All 3 of my boys have taken their turn at the Ronald McDonald House in Iowa City, Iowa as their feet were corrected by Dr. Ponseti and his staff.
Here they sit in the playroom at the RMD House, Garrison wearing his new casts.
|
Garrison, 2 weeks old, lays on one of the dining tables at the Ronald McDonald House as his big brother Everett (age 2) colors the casts with crayons.
|
As if he remembers his own Ponseti Method treatment two years prior, Everett comforts and plays with baby Garrison at the RMD House one day after new casts have been put on. Everett is wearing his Ponseti-Mitchell AFO (also known as a FAB, or clubfoot brace).

Another casting-day in Iowa City, notice how good his feet already look.

Dr. Ponseti is looking at his handy-work: Everett's previously clubbed feet that Dr. Ponseti corrected two years prior.

I want other parents of
clubfooted children to know there
is an alternative to surgical
treatments, and even alternative
casting methods that can greatly
alter the final outcome, then see
the results of that alternative on
these pages.
Please, read on to learn more.
Hello,
My name is Shawnee. I'm married to Chriss and we have
three sons that were born with bilateral clubfoot. We
want to share clubfoot information with you based both
on our personal experience and solid medical backing.
My husband is a professional taxidermist and the
general manager of the Gainesville / Ocalla Florida
Critter Control office. As you might guess, we spend a
lot of time in the outdoors of this great land we call
home.
Clubfoot hasn't slowed us down, and it doesn't
have to slow you or your children down either!
Having six clubfeet in the house doesn't make me an
expert by any means. I don't want to be a clubfoot
expert.
I just want to be a Mom.
I don't want to be identified as the
woman with three clubfooted sons. I
don't want my sons being identified as
that kid with clubfoot. So we're not. I
don't play the martyr, they don't play the
victims.
But that didn't change the fact that it became widely
known that I WAS the mother of 3 clubfooted sons, and
thus, I was expected to know more.
That's when I started putting together a web site that
would answer the questions by offering the clubfoot
information parents needed - so I didn't have to.
It started with one little page back in 2004 shortly after
my 2nd clubfooted son was born, but it's grown to serve
as a fairly well organized data base for new parents who
are seeking information and advice. My goal is to help
other kids avoid the trauma my oldest son
endured, while helping the rest of them enjoy the
benefits my younger two boys have enjoyed via the
Ponseti Method. If I have succeeded or failed I cannot
say, but I'm always happy to hear your input and
opinions.
My main goal has always been
though, to show the world that
clubfoot, "when treated by expert
hands", as Dr. Ponseti puts it, is no
handicap to the otherwise normal,
healthy child.
It's not a handicap to the child, the parents or the family,
I hope that as you view the pages about my children and
our experiences with this birth defect you'll discover
you're not alone and you will put away any doubts you
may have about your own child growing up normal.
Clubfoot information will open doors, hearts and windows
of opportunity for your family.
We're not a family of clubfooted
kids, we're just a family. We make
no concessions nor allowances,
because they require none. We just
do the things we love to do, and you
can too.
Please read on to find the information you'll need to
ensure that your child can also enjoy a life of outdoor fun
in spite of being born with this potentially crippling
condition.
Understand that the Ponseti Method is not some weird form of
Alternative Medicine - it's sound medical practice backed up
with several decades of study world wide.
That it is known for being non-surgical in a world of surgery
worries some parents, but let me tell ya, there's nothing to
worry about.
To The Parents of Children Born With Clubfoot
Ensure a bright future of Outdoor Fun!
